Aug 11- Nester One Day 3

After failing to wake up for northern lights we all woke up and had a delicious breakfast called scramble made by Jill. After eating we all got ready for the field. Before leaving we got in our daily morning yoga with Carla where we learned about the importance of strength and flexibility. Five minutes after the end of our yoga session we departed for our long long long hike to our first site of the day. We saw a bunch of caribou on the way which was quite lucky.

After about an hour and half we stoped at our first archeological site: the Tetons (Churchill version) which were two little mountains. We also got to see the blind, which was a line of rocks that native peoples used to hide behind to hunt caribou. We then made our way to our data collection site of the day which was a fen. While we collected our data, many caribou were wandering around right next to us wondering what we were doing! After data collection we dropped off our field gear and continued hiking to the coast of the Hudson Bay. While some people went for a nice dip in the bay, others lit a fire 🔥 and roasted some hotdogs for a second lunch.

We left the beach around 6 pm and while heading back stopped at some tent rings that native people used to set up their tents. We picked up our stuff and headed back to Nester, stopping to see some more caribou(a whole herd!) on the way. We made it back to camp by 8pm, and the dinner crew immediately got to work on dinner for the night. We had a delicious midnight supper of chicken adobo, Julie Roger’s old bay chicken wings, and pasta salad. We ate dinner under the stars watching the northern lights. After dinner and apple crisp we got ready for bed and went to sleep.

Just chilling dudes,
