Aug 12-Nester One Day 4

Today the teachers let us sleep in a little with a 9 o clock breakfast of pancakes and oranges because we’ve been working so hard. We finally had no field sites to do today, instead setting out to research the fox dens scattered around Wapusk.

Once in the field, we trekked 3 kilometers to the farthest den from us, where we learned the procedure for studying the overgrown mounds. Before we got there, we paired off with people we didn’t know as well and learned about what their ‘perfect day’ would be. The first den was active, but we were unable to see any foxes or pups running around while we were there.

After a relaxing lunch, we started the walk back to do what turned out to be our second and last den of the day, as we had spent to much time studying the plants at the first. After the second den, we were treated to another viewing of Julie’s hair as she “showered in the wind”.  We also were paid a visit by many overly-curious caribou, who ran right up to us before realizing we weren’t part of the herd.

Once we got back to camp, Jonah and Tessa cooked a delicious noodle stir fry before we had our ISAMR Olympic competition at night. We had two separate events: the wheelbarrow and egg toss. In the wheelbarrow, team Black Knights won with Aralin and Amelia while the Pink Belugas and Team Lucky Charms got silver and bronze. In the egg toss, team Black Knights lost on the first throw, while team Belugas and Lucky Charms entered an entertaining showdown that made it near impossible for the people to see their partners. In the end, Nia and Joaquin grabbed gold for the Belugas after a controversial ruling that Jonah and Tessa lost even though their egg only fell, but didn’t crack.

Ssaaakes you later, Nathan and Kara
