Aug 10th- Nester One Day 2

We woke up to the delicious aroma of Biscuits and Gravy prepared by Jill and Julie. The Canadians were introduced to a southern US delicacy, and then we all got up to prepare for our first field day at Nester One. After a bit of a slow time getting ready,  we got going out of Nester after a relaxing yoga session ran by Carla.

At our first site of the day, we ran through without much trouble while seeing many beautiful galloping Caribou. After most of us finished doing the field work, we sat on the beach ridge overlooking the site when we saw something we didn’t think we’d see this trip It was Julie’s Lucious locks(hair) that made her look like an “Arctic Pantene Model”(Vicki).  We set out for our second transect set after a nice break, but little did we know that we would be met with what was possibly our most difficult site yet.

At our second site, everyone who was id’ing plants was done in less than an hour. You’d think that would mean an easy field site, but think again. Probers spent around two hours  working through the transects, and the permafrost was so difficult to get to that we had to rotate through 10 different people to finish. In the last few flags though, our pain turned into a fun game of probing competitions. Many of us participated before we handed it off to the teachers, including a duel between Julie and Vicki, who both did an awesome job.

After we all got home, we tiredly accepted supper and capped the night with an awesome ISAMR Olympic game of Salad Bowl! After much screaming and charades, and a bit of bickering about if goose and geese are the same word, we finally decided the game was over and that it was time for bed.
