Aug 17- Town of Churchill Day 2/Train Home Day 1

We woke up early, filled with excitement for the day’s adventure: paddle boarding with belugas! Everyone packed up their bags and then ate pancakes cooked by Jill. We all   said goodbye to camp Nanuq as we went on our way to Sea North Tours. Once we got there, we put on our wet suits, some of us struggling to put on tight-fitting suit. It was very windy and cold as we waited around to start our tour. Finally, our instructor gave us a safety briefing and then we headed out onto the water.

We paddled around and saw  many belugas!! They were breaching from the water, blowing bubbles, and swimming alongside us. Little did we know, we were drifting more and more downwind. The wind was so strong that it was almost impossible to paddle back upwind. Luckily the motor boats came to our rescue and gave us a ride back to shore. We took off our wetsuits and changed into dry and warm clothes. We headed back to the complex (a hangout area in Churchill) to have lunch and hold a final Olympic games and closing ceremony. Black knights kept their lead after a riveting three legged race. Then team pride pulled foreword after winning the ping pong competition. Finally Pink Belugas won the pool challenge winning the olympic games once and for all!

Afte the medal awarding ceremony, we set out on the town with the JCRs leading us. We explored many stores and each purchased a pair of matching polar bear pajama shorts or pants. Then we headed to the Lazy Bear Lodge to enjoy our last moments together by drinking milkshakes. The time ticked by but our milkshakes were nowhere to be seen. Our milkshakes finally arrived and with only a few moments to make it to the train station, we chugged them and bolted out the door. Once we reached the train station we frantically unpacked our bags trying to make sure nothing was lost or misplaced. Then goodbyes were exchanged between the Baltimore students and the JCR’s, and then the Baltimore kids boarded the train. After waving one last goodbye through the train window, the Baltimore kids slowly began the journey back to Winnipeg. Some played cards while other chose to rest. Eventually everyone in the train fell asleep in as comfortable of an arrangement as we could in the cramped train car.
