Blog Update August 10
Today we woke up at 7am and had breakfast at 8. Breakfast was decent today we had scrambled eggs and turkey bacon. After breakfast we went met at the northern fence and got ready for our hike. At the fence we did our gear check and daily yoga with Carla. Carla taught us Warrior 1-3 which focus on balance. After yoga we started our hike to W-10 which is out third and driest site in Wapusk. The hike ended up taking around two hours because we made stopped by historic sites and landmarks. The first place we stopped at was the Tetons which are two small hills, but at a distance they look like two mountains. We learned that indigenous people would use the Tetons to navigate around the park. After we rested at the Tetons for a bit, we stopped by our next historic site which was an old hunting blind used by indigenous people to hunt caribou. Our last historic site we visited was a rock where peopled used to smash rocks for arrow heads and knives. Finally, we made it to W-10. We collected all our data and finished fast since most of the plants were the same. After we got done, we went to the beach. The tide was low, and it looked like the beach went on forever. A small group of us went out onto the shore to look for fossils. We did not find any cool fossils except for plant and seashell fossils. While we were out fossil hunting the JCRs made a fire that we sat and rested at for an hour. Once we all got bored Carla led us through yoga on the beach for ten minutes. Then it was time to go back to camp, hiking took two hours and all of feet hurt at the end. The rest of the night was quick we had gross perogies for dinner, played some card games, and went to bed.
