August 2, evening
This morning, I woke up at 5 A.M. on the train. It was already bright out, which is much different than Winnipeg. It was a lovely morning on the train, with everyone bonding over trying to learn the Latin names for the plants we would be identifying. Finally, we arrived in Churchill and we were able to go outside after 17 hours stuck on a train. We met some people from the Churchill Northern Study Centre and we all drove to the centre. We ate an amazing lunch there, with a fabulous vegetarian option. After lunch, we set off for the tundra. We practiced collected micro and macra data and identifying plants. It was a really fun afternoon hiking to our data collection site and seeing all the beautiful plants and nature. A few hours later, we headed back to the study centre for another amazing meal. After supper, we drove down to the beach (the ocean!!) and made a fire. It was so much fun climbing on the rocks and playing in the water. We roasted marshmallows and made s'mores. They were pretty delicious! Today has been an absolutely wonderful day! I got to know more about the people on the trip and being out in nature is awesome. It is so beautiful and I don't want to leave. There were no polar bear sightings today.
