Aug 8- Camp Nanuq Day 3

We woke up bright and early to a breakfast of delicious hash browns, sausage, and eggs courtesy of Jill, Julie and others. Despite a slight delay to do pushups, we got out of camp in the morning and went to our first site of the day. It was our first fen, and many of us had to pull our hip waders high up our legs to avoid getting soaked. After making quick work of data collection we took a quick (hour long) pause to eat some lunch and have an “in the moment now” where we each wrote very adorable affirmations for the people standing to our left and right. After that we were back in business, heading out to a bog this time. Julie promised us that if we finished in under an hour we would get a special present(we didn’t finish in time)

After the site, we were expecting to go back to Camp Nanuq and get ready for dinner, but we ended up swimming in a muddy lake. Everyone eventually got in, and only a few people fell and lost shoes. After our brief detour, we actually got back to camp just in time for a delicious chili dinner prepared solely by the fabulous Jill(she’s awesome) Ryan Brook also contributed some boring stuff to the group, like taking us to see OUR FIRST POLAR BEARS!

Before dinner we were about to turn into Camp Nanuq when Ryan zoomed his truck up beside our vans and told us to follow him. Once we got to the famous Churchill golf balls, we saw a beautiful(and ferocious) mom and cub lying in the sun. We all couldn’t believe our eyes as the white animals basked in the sun with no worry. After half an hour of pictures, Julie and Carla had to force us back home to enjoy Jill’s beautiful supper. Once home, we got to draw pictures on rocks with Sandra Cook, who is an artist in Churchill. While some of us admittedly are not artists, everyone turned out to have beautiful pieces. We got to bed really late, as we had to clean Nanuq until it was as shiny as a trophy. That was because tomorrow is our first chopper day!

Peace out, Nathan
