Aug 17 - Final Day in Churchill!

Today we enjoyed our last moments in Churchill to the very best of our abilities. We woke up to our last pancake breakfast before continuing to clean and organize our lives from the past two weeks.

Finally, around noon, we made it out and went to the coast of the Hudson Bay to enjoy the amazing sight of many belugas showing off in the water. We also had a long discussion on where to go from here with our newfound knowledge and passion for the plants, culture, and general life of the Arctic. Eventually we picked up our things and headed to town.

We walked around the fascinating Itsanitaq (previously named Eskimo) Museum, and we loved exploring the large collection of artifacts, fossils, and taxidermies of native arctic animals. Then we walked around some stores in town, namely including a necessary snack stop at the Northern. We rushed back to Camp Nanuq, only to be thwarted by an amazing sighting of a mom and her two cubs swimming in a lake.

Our frantic preparations continued back at camp as we threw the bags in the car and stuffed Cassandra, Soren, McKenna, and Elizabeth on top and barely made it to the train station. We unpacked the van and organized the luggage as Julie brought the rest of the crew over to the station. Then it was time to say goodbye to all our Churchill friends that we sadly couldn’t pack in our suitcases and bring with us.

The train brought more excitement, with the unexpected challenge of figuring out how to open and make MRE’s for dinner! Then it was time to get tucked in for our long night on the train.

See you soon!
